About me
Amy has been working at the intersection of arts and emergency management since 9/11 and was a dancer for many years. She currently serves as the Administrative Lead of the Safety Net Coalition, a recent network created to serve NYC's artists and arts organizations before, during and after disasters. She also serves on the Steering Committee of the National Coalition for Arts' Preparedness and Emergency Response (NCAPER); has consulted for them and the Performing Arts Readiness Project (PAR); was brought in to work with the RAND Corporation on the Recovery Plan for Puerto Rico as a subject matter expert in the recovery of artists and arts organizations and collaborated with RAND on a report about their work for the Department of Homeland Security. Amy also served as the Community Planner in FEMA's NYS Recovery Office after Hurricane Sandy, hired to focus on the recovery of artists and arts organizations for the Natural and Cultural Resource Recovery Support Function (NCR-RSF). She is lead author of "The Cultural Placekeeping Guide," "Essential Guidelines for Arts Responders" and other NCAPER publications. As a dancer, Amy studied at (and also served as Executive Director of) the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies, worked with Meredith Monk, Blondell Cummings, Alyson Pou and the Kings County Shakespeare Company.
